
In recognition of the public sector’s centrality to democracy and good governance, the Secretariat delivers institutional capacity-building programmes to strengthen public sector institutions and effectively position member countries within the rapidly changing global environment.
The Governance and Institutional Development Division (GIDD) has responsibility for the Secretariat's mandate on public sector development. Its work covers the full spectrum of public sector administration and management as well as issues relating to civil society and private sector institutions with a public responsibility.

The Commonwealth Service Abroad Programme (CSAP) places 30 volunteers experts a year to assist member countries. It is also the Secretariat’s primary initiative in response to national disasters such as the December 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami and the October 2005 Pakistan earthquake.

The Steering Committee of Commonwealth Connects is pleased to announce that the Second Formal Call for Projects has commenced.

The Commonwealth Development Network (CDN) facilitates information sharing between contact points in Commonwealth member governments.
