Commonwealth Day is an opportunity to promote understanding on global issues, international co-operation and Commonwealth’s organisations, which aim to improve the lives of its citizens.
Opportunity through enterprise is everywhere: in small rural communities, large urban centres, developing or developed countries, government, business and civil society.
This year’s theme encourages and nurtures imagination for seeking solutions to global challenges. Innovation, resourcefulness and resilience are building blocks of our modern Commonwealth. These are at the heart of our enterprising spirit.
Commonwealth Day will be celebrated across the world, with events organised by schools and youth groups, governments, intergovernmental and civil society organisations. The day is also celebrated with a multi-faith service at Westminster Abbey in London, attended by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Head of the Commonwealth, representatives from Commonwealth countries and schoolchildren. There are competitions for young people and a prestigious Commonwealth Lecture.
