The G20 Development Working Group (DWG) was established in 2010 and has pursued extensive work on several priority issues in development, many of which have direct relevance for the poorest, smallest and most vulnerable developing countries of the Commonwealth and the Francophonie. The Russian G20 Presidency has ascribed exceptionally high importance in its work, including through its chairing of the G20 Development Working Group in 2013, to an effective process of outreach to the world’s poorest, smallest and most vulnerable developing countries. The outreach discussion represents a particularly important opportunity for G20 dialogue with two associations representing over 80 developing countries.
The meeting was convened by the Secretariats of the Commonwealth and Francophonie, together with the Russian Presidency of the G20 Development Working Group for 2013. It took place on the afternoon of 21 April 2013 at the World Bank Washington DC. The meeting consisted of an outreach and discussion among members of the Commonwealth, Francophonie and members of the G20 Development Working Group. The meeting was preceded by an informal lunch, hosted by the Secretariats of the Commonwealth and the Francophonie; and followed by an evening reception, hosted by Russia, as President of the G20 for 2012.
