Established in 1971, the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Co-operation (CFTC) is the principal means for providing technical assistance to Commonwealth countries. It is a mutual and voluntary fund and members contribute resources according to their ability and draw on them according to their needs.
The Secretariat collaborates with other development partners to ensure a collaborative and targeted approach for optimal development impact. CFTC’s annual budget of around UK£24 million is supplemented by considerable external resources through strategic partnerships.

The CFTC provides technical expertise to both the public and private sectors through assignments that range from a few days to two or three years.

The Commonwealth Development Network facilitates information sharing on Commonwealth member government contact points, member governments and the Secretariat.
