
Sport is a key part of the Commonwealth’s identity. Commonwealth Heads of Government have recognised the benefits of physical activity and the importance of sport as an effective instrument for social and economic development.
Regular meetings of Commonwealth Ministers of Sport are now held to increase Commonwealth collaboration in this important area. The last meeting was held in Melbourne on 14 March 2006 where Ministers agreed to:

The Commonwealth Advisory Body on Sport (CABOS) was established in 2005 following the Commonwealth Sports Ministers Meeting in Athens

Commonwealth Sports Ministers Meetings are held every two years, prior to the Commonwealth Games and the Summer Olympic & Paralympic Games

Under a unique partnership programme, the Commonwealth Secretariat is working with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to help the fight against doping in international sport.
