'A model for multilateralism' - Commonwealth Secretary-General in Washington

"In the Commonwealth, the principles of debate and consensus are extraordinarily powerful and positive bonds between us," said Commonwealth Secretary-General Don McKinnon in a speech at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies in Washington on Thursday, 25 May. He looked at the ways the Commonwealth has been promoting the democratic ethos and good governance, how it has worked to prevent and resolve conflict situations, and how it is seeking to bridge cultural and other divides. "Between us, as US, Commonwealth and global citizens, we can indeed share ways of meeting the great challenges of our times," he said.
