A market stall in India: Commonwealth developing countries are seeking to eliminate poverty and hunger, and to increase exports to the developed world
Economic opportunities
The Commonwealth is committed to the Millennium Development Goals, which include targets on eliminating extreme poverty and hunger, promoting gender equality, ensuring environmental sustainability, and developing a global partnership for development. The Secretariat works to achieve these goals through a range of programmes to promote economic growth and alleviate poverty, both at the macroeconomic level through advocacy, consensus-building and policy advice, and through hands-on development assistance delivered via the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Co-operation.
