13 July 2004
Commonwealth Secretary-General Don McKinnon will visit Malta from 14-15 July 2004 to hold discussions with Maltese Prime Minister Dr Lawrence Gonzi. He will also pay a courtesy call on President Eddie Fenech-Adami and have talks with the Foreign Minister, Dr Michael Frendo.
The Secretary-General's discussions will focus on the administrative and substantive aspects of preparations for the forthcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), which will be held in Malta next year, and on current Commonwealth issues, including the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group on the Harare Declaration (CMAG), of which Malta is a member.
Note to Editors:
At the last CHOGM, which was held in Abuja, Nigeria in December 2003, Commonwealth leaders accepted the offer of the Government of Malta to host their next Meeting in 2005. Governments are currently being consulted on the dates of the Meeting, which have not been announced yet.
