Commonwealth Secretary-General to visit Seychelles

Commonwealth Secretary-General Don McKinnon will visit Seychelles from 28 to 30 January 2004, where he will meet President France Albert René, Vice-President James Michel and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Jérémie Bonnelame.

The Secretary-General's discussions in Seychellesare expected to cover regional and international developments, Commonwealth assistance programmes and co-operation with Seychelles.

Mr McKinnon will also hold consultations with the SeychellesMinister of Education and Youth, Danny Faure. The talks will focus on implementation of decisions made by Commonwealth Education Ministers at their meeting in October 2003, in particular the development of appropriate and ethical codes of conduct in cross-country teacher recruitment.

Mr McKinnon is scheduled to address a group of Seychellois young people at the National Institute of Education on Friday, 30 January 2004.

The 15th Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers established a working group on cross-country teacher recruitment to develop appropriate and ethical codes of conduct. Seychellesis a member of the working group, which will meet in Lesothoin February 2004.
