Commonwealth Secretary-General to hold talks in Canada

Commonwealth Secretary-General Don McKinnon arrives in Ottawa today, 30 April, for consultations with the Prime Minister of Canada, the Rt Hon Jean Chrétien.

They will discuss current Commonwealth issues, including preparations for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), due to take place from 5 to 8 December 2003 in Abuja, Nigeria. Mr McKinnon will also hold talks with the Hon Bill Graham, Minister for Foreign Affairs, and the Hon Susan Whelan, Minister for International Co-operation.

Earlier this week the Secretary-General attended a meeting of the Board of Governors of the Commonwealth of Learning in Vancouver.
