Commonwealth Secretary-General visits St Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada and St Kitts and Nevis

Commonwealth Secretary-General Don McKinnon, who has been in St Vincent and the Grenadines for the Commonwealth Law Ministers Meeting since Sunday 17 November 2002 today embarks on official visits to Grenada and St Kitts and Nevis.

In St Vincent, in addition to addressing and participating in the Law Ministers Meeting, Mr McKinnon met with the Prime Minister, Dr Ralph Gonsalves and the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Arnhim Eustace. He also met a group of children from five secondary schools.
The Secretary-General will arrive in Grenada today where he will call on Prime Minister Keith Mitchell and hold discussions with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Elvin Nimrod and the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Michael Baptiste. He will also meet a youth group and visit a new hospital, which the Commonwealth helped to establish.

Mr McKinnon will arrive in St Kitts and Nevis on 22 November. While there he will call on the Prime Minister, Dr Denzil Douglas, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Timothy Harris and the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Malcolm Guishard. The Secretary-General will also meet development consultants funded by the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Co-operation and college students.

The Secretary-General's meetings in the region will focus on issues of importance to the Commonwealth and the Caribbean region, including Commonwealth support to member countries to help them comply with UN Security Council Resolution 1373 on combating terrorism and programmes involving Commonwealth assistance and co-operation.
