Commonwealth officials to visit Pakistan

24 April 2002

Two officials of the Commonwealth Secretariat will be in Pakistan from 24 April to 1 May 2002. Mr Jon Sheppard, Director of the Political Affairs Division, and Ms Kishwer Falkner will meet government officials as well as representatives of political parties and civil society groups in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi.

The visit follows the request made by Heads of Government at the recent Commonwealth summit in Australia, that the Secretary-General actively monitor developments in Pakistan in the period leading up to the restoration of civilian democratic government.
