Commonwealth Secretary-General to Attend UN General Assembly

The Commonwealth Secretary-General, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, will be in New York next week to attend the 52nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly. During his visit, he will hold discussions with the UN Secretary-General, Mr Kofi Annan, other senior UN officials and will address Commonwealth Permanent Representatives to the United Nations.
In their meeting scheduled for Wednesday, 19 November 1997, Chief Anyaoku and the UN Secretary-General will discuss matters of mutual concern to the Commonwealth and the UN, including current developments in Africa, sustainable development and the concerns of small states. He will brief the UN Secretary-General on the outcome of the recent Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Edinburgh last month. He will also exchange views with Commonwealth Permanent Representatives on developments in the Commonwealth which are relevant to their work at the UN.
