Commonwealth Finance Ministers' Meeting in Bermuda

Attention Financial Editors:
This year's meeting of Commonwealth Finance Ministers will be held in Bermuda, 24-26 September, at the Southampton Princess Hotel. It will be chaired by Britain's Chancellor of the Exchequer, the Rt Hon Kenneth Clarke.

The Commonwealth meeting is always held just before the annual meetings of the IMF and the World Bank, this year in Washington, and provides Ministers with an opportunity to exchange views on subjects that are likely to be on the Fund/Bank agendas. The main topics expected to be discussed will be multilateral debt relief for heavily-indebted poor countries; private capital flows and development: the role of national and international policies; uncertainty over IDA (the World Bank's International Development Association); and combating money laundering.

All journalists wishing to attend the meeting in Bermuda should complete the attached Accreditation Form, which also covers accommodation, and return it to the Information and Public Affairs Division, Commonwealth Secretariat by 1 September.

With respect to hotel accommodation, the Southampton Princess (the conference hotel) is offering a special daily rate of US$ 228 single (including tax). All bookings at this rate must be made through Mrs Pethen. Correspondents can make their own arrangements independently but there is no guarantee they will be quoted the conference rate.
