Commonwealth Secretary-General to Visit India

19 October 1999

Commonwealth Secretary-General Chief Emeka Anyaoku will be visiting India from 20-23 October 1999. He will meet with the Prime Minister, Mr Atal Behari Vajpayee, as well as with the Minister of External Affairs, Mr Jaswant Singh. His meetings are part of a series of consultations which he is undertaking in advance of the forthcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in South Africa. The discussions are expected to focus on key agenda issues for the Durban CHOGM, as well as other matters of immediate Commonwealth priority.

The Secretary-General will be meeting the leaders of the newly-elected Indian government shortly after their formal assumption of office.
