Commonwealth Secretary-General to visit India, Sri Lanka, Australia and New Zealand

The Commonwealth Secretary-General, Don McKinnon, will visit four countries from 6 - 15 May 2001 for bilateral consultations in the run-up to this year's Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Brisbane.
Mr McKinnon will be in India from 7-8 May, Sri Lanka from 8-9 May, Australia from 10-12 May and New Zealand from 12-14 May.
In New Delhi the Secretary-General will address the Indian Council for World Affairs on Monday 7 May 2001.
In Australia, the Secretary-General will discuss preparations for CHOGM, the current high-level review of the Commonwealth and other issues with Prime Minister John Howard, chair of the next CHOGM and the prospective Chairperson-in-Office of the Commonwealth. Mr McKinnon will also deliver the Alfred Deakin Memorial Lecture in Melbourne on Friday 11 May on the theme A Commonwealth within a Commonwealth.
Consultations with other leaders will also cover matters likely to come up at the Brisbane CHOGM which will be held 6-9 October 2001.
