Uganda will host the 8th triennial meeting of Commonwealth Women’s Affairs Ministers Meeting (8WAMM) from 11 to 14 June 2007.
The meeting, to be held at the Speke Resort and Conference Centre in Kampala, will bring together about 300 ministers and delegates from 53 member countries.
The theme for 8WAMM is ‘Financing Gender Equality for Development and Democracy’. The meeting will focus on strengthening institutional capacities to enhance gender mainstreaming and achieving the Millennium Development Goals.
Delegates are scheduled to review the implementation of the Commonwealth Plan of Action for Gender Equality 2005-2015 and decide on a monitoring and evaluation framework
for it.
The Ugandan Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Syda Bbumba, will chair the meeting, while Commonwealth Secretary-General Don McKinnon will deliver the keynote address.
Recommendations for financing gender equality will be finalised at 8WAMM and presented at the Commonwealth Finance Ministers Meeting in Guyana in September and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Kampala in November.
Journalists wishing to cover the meeting should complete the attached accreditation form and return it to the Communications and Public Affairs Division, Commonwealth Secretariat by Monday, 30 April 2007.
Limited sponsorship will be available to journalists wishing to attend a course in business leadership and trade ahead of 8WAMM. However, the participants must be prepared to remain in Kampala to cover 8WAMM.

Accreditation
Media representatives wishing to cover 8WAMM must be accredited in order to have access to the meeting venue and facilities. Applications for accreditation must be made on the attached form or copies made from it. Two passport-sized photographs must be included with the application.
Applications must be accompanied by a letter of assignment typed on an original company letterhead, signed by a news editor or senior editor confirming the applicant has been assigned to cover 8WAMM.
Completed applications from media organisation across the Commonwealth should be sent to Mr Manoah Esipisu by Monday, 30 April 2007. Representatives of media organisations based in Uganda should submit their applications to Hon Lydia Wanyoto.
Immigration
All persons entering Uganda are required to have a valid passport. Information on entry requirements can be found on http://uganda.embassyhomepage.com
Accommodation
Media representatives are responsible for their own accommodation; that is, each person must make his/her own reservation, and is responsible for all charges pertaining to accommodation.
Media Centre
Located at the meeting site, the Media Centre will be equipped with computers with internet access, printers, facsimile and telephones. These facilities will be available for use by accredited media professionals covering the meeting.
Medical Arrangements
Media personnel should make appropriate arrangements for insurance to cover emergency medical, surgical and hospital expenses.
