Commonwealth Secretary-General Don McKinnon today arrived in India, at the start of a three-country visit to South Asia from 13-19 February 2006.
He will be in India from 13-15 February, where he will call on Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Minister for Commerce and Industry Kamal Nath, and the Minister for Youth Affairs, Sports and Panchayati Raj Mani Shankar Aiyar.
While in New Delhi, the Secretary-General will also address the opening of the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association's biennial General Conference on 15 February.
Mr McKinnon will arrive in Bangladesh on 16 February where he will hold meetings with Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, Foreign Minister Morshed Khan, Finance Minister Saifur Rahman and Opposition leader Sheikh Hasina.
From Dhaka, the Secretary-General will head for Karachi, where he will deliver a Special Lecture at the Aga Khan University on 17 February on the topic Shaping the Global Agenda: Role of the Commonwealth.
The Secretary-General also expects to be able to meet President Musharraf while in Pakistan.
In each of the capitals, the Secretary-General will hold discussions on issues arising out of the recent Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting held last November in Malta, including trade, promoting understanding among communities, and the digital divide.
The Secretary-General returns to London on 19 February.
