Commonwealth Secretary-General visits India and Bangladesh

The Commonwealth Secretary-General, Mr Don McKinnon begins a four-day visit to India and Bangladesh on 16 April 2000.

The Secretary-General will be in India from 16-19 April in the context of the Sixth Meeting of Commonwealth Ministers Responsible for Women's Affairs. He will have meetings with the Prime Minister, the Minister of External Affairs and Finance Minister to discuss issues of mutual concern.

In Bangladesh, on 19-20 April, the Secretary-General will meet the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs. He will also pay a courtesy call on the President. The discussions are expected to include preparations for the next meeting of the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG), of which Bangladesh is a new member.
