21st Meeting of the Commonwealth Science Council

The Commonwealth Science Council (CSC) will hold its 21st meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa, from Tuesday 10 to Thursday 12 June 2003.
The meeting will be chaired by the Hon Dr Ben Ngubane, South Africa's Minister of Arts, Culture, Science and Technology.
Commonwealth Deputy Secretary-General, Mrs Florence Mugasha, will represent the Secretary-General at the Meeting.
The Council's members are drawn from all regions of the Commonwealth.
Representatives from other interested Commonwealth countries and intergovernmental organisations have been invited to observe the meeting.
The Johannesburg meeting will review the work and achievements of the CSC over the past three years such as the development of a Water Poverty Index, the development and establishment of the Commonwealth-Sri Lanka Centre for Chemical Residue Analysis, the expansion of the Public Understanding of Science Programme through CommQuest, the formation of the Association of Commonwealth Traditional Medicine Practitioners for West Africa and the launch of the Sustainable Trade and Innovation Centre.
The Council will develop a plan of action for the future direction for co-operation in science and technology in the Commonwealth.
