Commonwealth Secretary-General visits Botswana, Mozambique and Zambia

Commonwealth Secretary-General Don McKinnon is visiting Botswana on the first leg of a Southern African tour, which will also take him to Mozambique and Zambia. Mr McKinnon will meet the leaders of these three countries for consultations on issues of common concern including the forthcoming meeting of Commonwealth Heads of Government, scheduled to take place in Abuja, Nigeria, 5-8 December 2003.
The Secretary-General met the President of Botswana, Festus Mogae, in Gaborone this afternoon. He is also delivering the opening address at the Commonwealth Youth Ministers Meeting in Gaborone today.
Mr McKinnon will be in Maputo, Mozambique, from 29 to 31 May and will meet with President Joaquim Alberto Chissano.
He will then fly to Lusaka, Zambia, where he will meet with President Levy Mwanawasa on 2 June.
