Upon learning of the passing away of the Queen Mother today, the Rt Hon Don McKinnon, the Commonwealth Secretary General made the following statement:

30 March 2002

''I was deeply saddened by the news of the death of the Queen Mother. She was an exceptional person who devoted her life to her family, her nation and the Commonwealth. She will be deeply missed not only in the United Kingdom but throughout the Commonwealth and in other parts of the world. I wish to convey my sincere condolences at this sad time to Her Majesty, The Queen and her family. May they find comfort in the love, affection and respect the Queen Mother enjoyed throughout her long life.''
