Commonwealth Secretary-General condemns attack on India's Parliament
13 December 2001
The Commonwealth Secretary-General, Don McKinnon, today condemned the attack on the Indian Parliament by armed militants:
"This attack on the seat of governance in the world's largest democracy is another reminder that those who trade in terror will stop at nothing to further their ends and that no country is immune from terrorism.
This was an attack aimed at those who serve the people of their country.
It should strengthen our resolve to fight terrorism wherever it occurs and whatever shape or form it takes.
On behalf of the Commonwealth I would like to express our solidarity and sympathy with the government and people of India, with the injured victims, and with the families of those who have lost their lives defending democracy."
