Commonwealth Secretary-General to visit Cameroon and Nigeria

Commonwealth Secretary-General Emeka Anyaoku will visit Cameroon from 14-18 March to attend a summit-level meeting on conserving the rainforests of Central Africa and for talks with Cameroon President Paul Biya.


Chief Anyaoku was jointly invited to attend the Central African Regional Conference on the Conservation of Tropical Rainforest by President Biya and the Duke of Edinburgh in his capacity as President Emeritus of the Worldwide Fund for Nature International.


In his talks with President Biya, the Secretary-General will discuss matters of mutual interest, including preparations for the forthcoming Heads of Government Meeting in South Africa in November and recent developments in West and Central Africa.


After Cameroon, Chief Anyaoku will visit Nigeria briefly for talks with Nigeria's Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar. He is also expected to meet with the country's President-elect, General Olusegun Obasanjo.
