Commonwealth Team to be Present in Uganda for Presidential Elections

5 March 2001

A three-member team from the Commonwealth Secretariat will be present in Uganda as representatives of the Commonwealth Secretary-General during the Presidential Elections which are to be held on 12 March 2001. The team will be led by Professor Ade Adefuye, Special Adviser, Political Affairs Division and will report to the Secretary-General on their return to London. One member of the team is already in Kampala and the remaining members will be present from 6-13 March.

In making the announcement today, Secretary-General Don McKinnon said the Secretariat team was being sent to Uganda in response to an invitation from the Commissioner for Elections to observe the Presidential Elections.
