Commonwealth Secretary-General to visit West Africa

Commonwealth Secretary-General Don McKinnon will visit Nigeria from 14-16 February to discuss with President Olusegun Obasanjo issues of mutual concern, including preparations for the forthcoming Heads of Government Meeting in Australia this October and recent developments in West and Central Africa. Mr McKinnon will also address the closing session of the Commonwealth Journalists Association's triennial conference in Abuja.
After Nigeria, the Commonwealth Secretary-General will visit Sierra Leone for talks with Sierra Leone's Head of State, President Ahmed Tejan Kabbah, before proceeding to The Gambia, where he will meet with President Yahya Jammeh. In both Sierra Leone and The Gambia, the Secretary-General will meet with senior government members, other political leaders and representatives of civil society and youth.
