Commonwealth Secretary-General Don McKinnon will be visiting Malaysia from 24-25 October 2005. While in Kuala Lumpur, he will discuss preparations for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) and other Commonwealth issues with Prime Minister Hon Dato' Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Foreign Minister Hon Dato' Seri Syed Hamid Albar. The Secretary-General will also meet his Special Envoy to Maldives, Tan Sri Musa Hitam.
Following his visit to Malaysia, Mr McKinnon will head for Papua New Guinea from 25-29 October to attend the 36th Pacific Islands Forum Summit. The Secretary-General was officially invited by the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, Hon Sir Michael Somare, to attend the Summit as a Special Guest of the Forum Leaders, and to address the Summit on 27 October 2005.
The Secretary-General will brief the Forum Leaders on preparations for CHOGM. He will also have bilateral meetings with several Pacific Commonwealth Heads of Government to discuss issues of importance to the region and how the Commonwealth can provide assistance.
Mr McKinnon will visit Solomon Islands from 30 October - 1 November to meet with Prime Minister Sir Alan Kemakeza and other senior ministers in Honiara. The talks will focus on the Commonwealth's technical assistance programme to support economic development activities in Solomon Islands.
