Ministers from the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) met at the United Nations today as part of its regular discussions affecting the 53 nation states. 

They expressed deep disappointment at the lack of progress being made by the Maldives on the

target="_blank">six key areas CMAG had previously identified. 

Ministers welcomed efforts from the UN to help the process and called for a 'timebound' dialogue to achieve agreement on institutional reforms, as well as ensuring an environment for 'credible and inclusive' presidential elections in 2018.

They were clear that all sides had to compromise, participate fully without preconditions and show flexibility around strengthening the country's political processes.
