| The trade analysts will work for ministries of trade in Commonwealth countries. |
Anju Keetaruth, 28, of Mauritius is excited about her two-year stint in Fiji Islands. "I will be able to draw on some lessons and experiences in Mauritius. My knowledge of some issues could be relevant and useful to the Fijian experience, such as the sugar industry, for instance, that could be beneficial to the Fiji situation," said Ms Keetaruth. She will be working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade.
Judith Fessehaie, 25, from Italy, hopes to become more conversant with issues of concern to developing countries with her attachment to the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, based in Fiji.
"I would like to do something that has an impact on the Pacific Islands. It is a unique occasion for a young person to work in such an interesting environment," said Ms Fessehaie.
The United Kingdom's Dan Lui, 25, is looking forward to his posting to Vanuatu. "I will carry out economic analysis to help improve capacity-building. I think it's going to be an amazing experience -- an unrivalled work experience for someone who has just completed graduate studies to get the opportunity to work in Vanuatu."
Roy Rodriguez, Head of Commonwealth Deputy Secretary-General Winston Cox's Office, said at a briefing session on 7 September 2004 at the Commonwealth Secretariat in London: "We expect the trade analysts to soon be familiar with the major trade issues confronting ACP countries and their roles and responsibilities within a major project designed to help ACP states to be able to benefit more from globalisation."
Elise McAuley, 23, who is of British-Australian parentage, is keen on experiencing a different lifestyle in Papua New Guinea. "It's a fantastic opportunity and a real honour to be in Papua New Guinea at this formative time during the country's development."
The other analysts include James Foster, 27, who will be posted to Rwanda; Alexis Rawlinson, 24, who is heading for Mozambique; Victoria Randell, 25, who will be in the United Republic of Tanzania; and Jaya Choria, 23, who is off to Tonga. They will work for the respective ministries of trade.
