New website launched for young people to share their views

The Commonwealth Secretariat has launched an exciting new website created and crafted by young people, students and youth leaders from around the world.

Yourcommonwealth.org is designed as a meeting point for people under 30 years of age from Commonwealth countries to share their ideas and experiences of the world.

The site allows those who care about issues such as injustice, poverty or the environment to swap viewpoints and videos and, in turn, attempt to influence global decision-makers.

You can contribute to the site by writing an article or short post, creating a video, by commenting on existing articles or by taking part in conversations on associated Twitter and Facebook pages.

The site features five regional pages where people from Africa, Asia, Europe, the Pacific, and the Americas and Caribbean are able to network with one another and make new friends.

There are also useful links to initiatives and competitions run by a range of Commonwealth organisations.

Layne Robinson, Youth Affairs Programme Officer at the Secretariat, said: “We have to start listening to young people if we are ever going to find the solutions to the world's most pressing problems – from human rights abuses to climate change.

“This website finally provides switched-on young people with a space to communicate their concerns and passions with peers situated, sometimes quite literally, on the other side of the planet.

“To take part, you can write a well-rounded article or a short post, or create a short video – the choice is entirely up to you.”

Regular site contributors are invited to join the Commonwealth Correspondents, an international collective of writers and young activists who report on local and worldwide issues and events.
