Statement by Eduardo del Buey, Official Spokesperson, Commonwealth Secretariat
“We have learned with sadness of the tragic murder of David Kato, and we are contacting Ugandan authorities to obtain more information; we know that they are investigating the killing and are resolved to bring those responsible to justice.
We note that Mr Kato has been the subject of much vitriolic media coverage due to his sexual orientation, and that this may have contributed to his violent death.
We deplore hate crimes of any nature and the vilification and targeting of gay and lesbian people run counter to the fundamental values of the Commonwealth, which include non-discrimination on any grounds.
We look forward to an early resolution of this murder.”

We work to ensure that all people enjoy equal rights regardless of gender, race, colour, creed or political belief can fully exercise the inalienable right to participate in free and democratic political processes; and ........but gay people don't count?
Than can the Commonwealth Secretariat find a member country to take in Brenda Namigadde where she will be safe?
