We believe in building partnerships, says Ransford Smith
Commonwealth Deputy Secretary-General Ransford Smith will attend this year’s summit of the leaders of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) scheduled to take place in Swaziland from 31 August to 1 September 2010.
Mr Smith will attend the summit at the invitation of COMESA Secretary-General Sindiso Ngwenya.
Speaking ahead of the trip, the Deputy Secretary-General said the Commonwealth enjoys very cordial relations with COMESA.
“The Commonwealth strongly believes in partnerships as a way of leveraging our work and building on our, and our partner’s, comparative advantage to maximise assistance and support to our citizens. COMESA is one of those strong partners,” Mr Smith said.
The theme of the Summit is: Harnessing Science and Technology for Development.
“Incidentally, the theme for Commonwealth this year is also around science and technology. So, clearly, both organisations are in tandem regarding the importance we attach to science and technology as an agent of development,” Mr Smith said.
