Commonwealth Foundation hosts online discussion forum on the accountability of civil society

The Commonwealth Foundation is hosting a series of online discussions about civil society accountability.

This is an opportunity for members of civil society and beyond to ask questions of experienced members of the civil society community, policy-makers and legislators, on key issues around civil society accountability.

By bringing people together in this virtual community, the Commonwealth Foundation aims to raise awareness and find ways to address the challenges faced by civil society in monitoring, reporting and evaluating their work.

Civil society is composed of organisations including registered charities, development non-governmental organisations, community groups, and faith-based organisations, among others.

The Commonwealth Foundation helps civil society organisations in the Commonwealth to realise their potential and engage with governments and the private sector in the shared enterprise of nation-building and international co-operation.

Members of civil society, public servants and government ministers, from the Commonwealth and beyond, are invited to join in the debate.

Each discussion will be chaired by an eminent practitioner who will introduce a topic and then respond to your comments and questions as well as inviting feedback from the audience.

The Q&A for each session will last for three weeks followed by a week to reflect on the discussion and to find a way forward.

Topics already under discussion are ‘Public perceptions of civil society: are they accountable?’ and coming soon ‘What is the role of civil society self-regulation?’
