Prime Minister Yang says his country values and appreciates support from the organisation

The Prime Minister of Cameroon, Philemon Yang, on 22 June 2010 visited Commonwealth Headquarters in London and met Secretary-General Kamalesh Sharma.

During the meeting, the Secretary-General briefed Mr Yang on current Commonwealth activities on promoting democracy and development among member countries. Mr Sharma told the Prime Minister about the association's efforts aimed at implementing the mandates from last year's Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Trinidad and Tobago - including promoting youth entrepreneurship, economic empowerment of women, strengthening election management bodies, as well as dealing with the effects of climate change on member countries.

Prime Minister Yang said his country appreciates the contribution from the Commonwealth in strengthening its democracy and development institutions.

"We are very grateful for the co-operation we maintain with the Commonwealth and for the support the organisation has given, and continues to give, us in strengthening our judiciary, election commission and other areas," Mr Yang said.

"We see ourselves constantly benefiting from the Commonwealth," he added.

Secretary-General Sharma said: "You can always rely on us for any support you want and feel we can offer."
