Commonwealth Deputy Secretary-General Mmasekgoa Masire-Mwamba this week addressed students at the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom as part of their coursework on International Institutions.
Mrs Masire-Mwamba spoke about the Commonwealth’s structure and activities as well as the association’s role in furthering international peace and security.
Afterwards, she took questions on a range of subjects, including the technical assistance the Commonwealth Secretariat provides to member countries, and the Secretary-General’s ‘Good Offices’ role in preventing and resolving conflict.
There are currently 182 students attending the year-long Advance Command and Staff Course, which includes participants from 20 Commonwealth countries outside the United Kingdom.
The prestigious Defence Academy is responsible for post-graduate education and the majority of command, staff, leadership, defence management, acquisition, and technology training for members of the UK Armed Forces and Ministry Of Defence Civilian Servants.
Brigadier Shaun Burley, Director of the course said that students came from all over the world to attend the course, which aims to prepare selected officers for high grade command and staff appointments.
