The world stands as one in solidarity with the people of Haiti - Commonwealth Secretary-General
Commonwealth Secretary-General Kamalesh Sharma was speaking at the weekend in the wake of the devastating loss of life in the Haiti earthquake.
'A national disaster is a matter of global concern, and the world stands as one in solidarity with the people of Haiti. Our thoughts are with them, and all those rallying to help them at this time.
We pay particular tribute to the United Nations – itself grieving over the loss of friends and colleagues in Port-au-Prince – as it coordinates the relief effort.
We belong to a global community, and we are seeing a global response, bound in humanity. We encourage all to support this emergency response, in whatever way they can.’
Well done S.G!! While Haiti is not a member of the Commonwealth but our fundamental principles and values mandated that we express our empathy in the face of such tragic circumstances. Furthermore it is a reflection of deep and historical bonds with CARICOM.
