Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group to meet in London

26 February 2009

The Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG), which addresses serious or persistent violations of the Commonwealth's fundamental political values, will meet in London on 4 March 2009

CMAG will review developments in Fiji Islands, which was suspended from the councils of the Commonwealth in December 2006, following the military overthrow of its democratically elected government.

CMAG is convened by the Secretary-General and comprises the Foreign Ministers of nine Commonwealth member countries – currently Ghana, Malaysia (Chair), Namibia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Sri Lanka, St Lucia, Uganda (Deputy Chair) and the United Kingdom.

This will be the Group’s 31st meeting since its establishment in 1995.
