ComCelebrate! serves up a multicultural feast at the Commonwealth Secretariat
Paying tribute to the wealth of talent amidst the cultural diversity of the Commonwealth – that is what Commonwealth Secretary-General Don McKinnon aims to do with the launch of ComCelebrate! in London on 14 March 2008.
This concert, which will round off the Commonwealth Week celebrations from 10 to 14 March, will showcase talent across the Commonwealth.
“There is so much to celebrate in the Commonwealth – like multiculturalism and our sense of community as we work together with a common goal to achieve development and democracy,” said the Secretary-General, who is hosting ComCelebrate! at the Commonwealth Secretariat.
“We also share a common language that speaks of respect and understanding among our people and the peoples of the world. ComCelebrate! recognises the unique cultural heritage of our people -- within countries and across continents. We may be oceans apart but we share a common ground in our values and hopes to uplift lives, and to foster peace and progress in the Commonwealth.”
Mr McKinnon stated that ComCelebrate! will bring the Commonwealth diaspora together in London for a cultural feast. The performers include singers, dancers and musicians from Ghana to Guyana, and from the Caribbean to the Pacific.
“This concert will celebrate harmony in diversity, talent in creativity, and vibrancy of culture in the Commonwealth. It is communicated through the artistic expressions of these performers in their articulation of ideas and images about life,” he added.
ComCelebrate! is supported by Tourism Malaysia, Cayman Islands Government, Seychelles Tourism Board, HSBC, Air Malta, Kenya Airways, Volvo, Royal Garden Hotel and Global Link Travel.
May God bless the common wealth of Nation. The meaning of commonwealth means alot to it's citizens. I think by my imagination commomn wealth stand for the interest of all common people of the memeber states. Common wealth i therefore expect you to interven in Nigeria's political turmoil. The scandal of Nigeria's power tussle cause by the sick state of our president. The issue of power rotational power i think is what is killing Nigeria. Thank you. El-mahmood Ibrahim
