Canada to partner Commonwealth in Conflict Reporting conference in Kenya

4 February 2008

Ground-breaking course March 3-6 to help fill gap exposed by post-election conflict

The Commonwealth Secretariat and Canada will hold a four-day workshop for Kenyan media on conflict management and how to report in a hostile environment.

The course has been arranged after Kenyan media appealed to Commonwealth Secretary-General Don McKinnon to arrange such training, crucial to reporters covering a serious conflict for the first time.

Kenya has faced serious challenges after an election which observers, including a group from the Commonwealth, said did not meet international standards. Dr Eddah Mutua-Kombo, a noted Kenyan conflict communications expert, is expected to be among the top speakers at the Nairobi event.
