McKinnon meets political leaders in Zanzibar on the second leg of his East Africa trip

Commonwealth Secretary-General Doc McKinnon met the President of Zanzibar Amani Abeid Karume on 26 January 2007.

Mr McKinnon, who is on the second leg of his East Africa trip, later met political leaders in Zanzibar – which is part of the United Republic of Tanzania.

He also toured a Commonwealth-supported Women’s Economic Empowerment Project.

On 29 January, the Secretary-General heads for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he is a guest at the 8th Summit of the AU. He hopes to hold bilateral meetings with a number of Commonwealth African leaders in Addis Ababa.
