Commonwealth Secretary-General Don McKinnon called on Solomon Islands Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare in Honiara on 30 October 2006.
Commonwealth Secretary-General Don McKinnon called on Solomon Islands Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare in Honiara on 30 October 2006.
They discussed economic growth, the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI) and ongoing Commonwealth technical assistance to the South Pacific country, including aid for the judiciary and good governance programmes.
Mr McKinnon also met the Minister for Commerce, Industries and Employment, Peter Agovaka. They discussed the mining, oil palm, tourism and livestock farming industries.
During talks with the Minister for Finance and Treasury Gordon Darcy, the Secretary-General was informed about the budget and revenue situation in Solomon Islands.
Mr McKinnon also held talks with Central Bank Governor Rick Hou and the Chief Justice, Sir Albert Palmer.
The Secretary-General was also briefed by the Special Co-ordinator of RAMSI, James Batley.
Mr McKinnon, who has been in Solomon Islands since 26 October, leaves for Vanuatu on 31 October for a two-day official visit.
