Chief executives can pick up useful tips on the strategies and tools for leading and managing organisations in complex and rapidly changing international business environments at a two-week 'Advanced Seminar for Chief Executives' to be held in Singapore from 29 May to 9 June 2006.
The event, funded by the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Co-operation (CFTC) and the Singapore-Commonwealth Third Country Training Programme, will be attended by 26 chief executives from public and private enterprises from across the Commonwealth. The programme will also be of relevance to newly privatised entities operating in co-operative environments.
The participants will be exposed to many recent innovations in management thinking and practice, which will be tailored wherever possible to their own particular contexts. They will have the opportunity to meet and interact with their counterparts from different parts of the world.
Core areas of business and management, including finance, accounting, operations management and marketing, and their application to public sector enterprises will be explored. Issues such as corporatisation, public-private partnerships, liberalisation and corporate governance will also be examined.
Dr Srinivas Sampath, Adviser, Public-Private Partnership, and Head of Asia and Pacific Section in the Governance and Institutional Development Division of the Commonwealth Secretariat, which manages this CFTC programme, said: "The rapidly changing international corporate environment and competitive landscape emphasises the need for organisations to develop and adopt strategies to stay on top of current and potential geopolitical, social and economic changes. In a globally connected world, changes in far-flung countries and in other industries can have a significant impact on organisations in dispersed Commonwealth countries.
"The potential for sudden and dramatic changes in environments necessitates an in-depth look at the need for senior executives to develop skills in managing change, and the need for knowledge and skills to deal with the political and social aspects of public enterprise management for people-centred development."
The programme seeks to strengthen leadership for change in the government and the corporate sectors to promote innovative management techniques and good governance in the Commonwealth.
