The President, along with former Commonwealth Deputy Secretary-General Sir Humphrey Maud and former chairmen of two of the UK's largest companies, Sir Ralph Robins of Rolls-Royce and GEC's Lord Prior of Brampton, were named Companions of the CPTM at a ceremony on 26 October 2005 held at the Commonwealth Secretariat's headquarters at Marlborough House in London, UK.
The recipients of the awards were recognised for their work to help energise an international effort to exploit the benefits of technology to enrich the lives of people in Commonwealth developing countries.
Mr Museveni, who played a pivotal role as one the instigators of the CPTM endowment fund, saluted the role it has played.
"The CPTM is a factory of generating ideas ... there is a severe deficit in generating correct and tested ideas, that is why the world is in crisis," he told the gathering.
President Museveni said ideas cannot be generated by bureaucrats. To sort out the issues of the world, ideas must be generated by the people who have a proven record of solving problems.
Sir Humphrey Maud praised the CPTM for transforming the organisation into a body of 'networkers' applying their skills and experience to advance its objectives.
