Electronic Forum to Promote Commonwealth Dialogue

Forum
'Networking the Commonwealth for Development'
The Commonwealth Foundation is organising an online consultation open to governments, civil society organisations and people across the Commonwealth, in preparation for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) and Commonwealth People's Forum (CPF) to be held in Malta in November 2005. Participants in the e-forum will discuss critical socio-economic issues that affect the lives of the Commonwealth's 1.8 billion people, as well as the role of the association in influencing those issues.

The e-forum, titled 'Global Priorities and the Role of the Commonwealth', will be held from 13 to 24 June 2005. It aims to strengthen the involvement of stakeholders in the CHOGM process. The e-forum will complement national consultations in more than 20 Commonwealth countries, and help widen the scope of participation by increasing dialogue between civil society and governments. The outcomes of the national and online consultations will be fed back to governments and civil society organisations for consideration by leaders at CHOGM.

Following the CHOGM theme of 'Networking the Commonwealth for Development', the e-forum will focus on: the World Summit on the Information Society; small island developing states; Africa (including the Commission for Africa); and the Millennium Development Goals.

Rudo Chitiga, Deputy Director of the Foundation, said: "The e-forum is an initiative that will facilitate discussions on global issues and enhance the contribution of stakeholders to the CHOGM agenda."

Participation in the online consultation is open but registration is required in order to take part in the discussions. Visit the Foundation website at www.commonwealthfoundation.com/eforum/
