Commonwealth Secretary-General to attend Inauguration of President Guebuza

Secretary-General Don McKinnon is in Maputo, Mozambique, to attend the inauguration of President Armando Guebuza on 2 February 2005. This event was attended by a number of Heads of Government in the region and the Secretary-General took the opportunity to meet with Commonwealth leaders present. 

President Guebuza's inauguration follows the presidential election of 1-2 December 2004, which was observed by a Commonwealth Observer Group.

The Commonwealth Observer Group for the Presidential Election of 1-2 December 2004 was led by Dr Vaughan Lewis, former Prime Minister of St Lucia. The Group's Report, along with that of a Commonwealth Expert Team that was present for the results processes, can be found here.
