Swing to the rhythm of the Paul Trippet Quartet

Band presents a touch of Broadway at ComCelebrate!

Musician Paul Trippett loves the music and songs of yesteryears popularised by Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Miles Davis.

“They were sensational and they top my list of old favourites,” said 29-year-old Paul, leader of the Paul Trippett Quartet. “Their songs are classics, and they’re evergreen in my music book.”

While musicians of his age often gravitate towards contemporary music, Paul prefers the musical fare of the old time greats of the 1950s and 1960s when jazz, swing and blues were the pop culture of that generation.

“I really like the songs of that era. They have a certain appeal in the melodies and the way the songs were rendered by the singers in their very own style, just like Sinatra who sang his songs in a renowned fashion as we know him for doing it ‘My Way’,” said Paul.

At the ComCelebrate! concert to be held at the Commonwealth Secretariat in London, UK, on 14 March 2008, the Paul Trippett Quartet will perform the jazz hits of the past that would do Sinatra proud. The band, which comprises David Fairburn on the piano, George Hogg on the trumpet, David Hamblett on drums and Paul Trippett on double bass, will play a selection of songs popularised by Ol’ Blue Eyes. They include numbers from the Great American Songbook that features the compositions of George Gershwin and Cole Porter. Gershwin was famous for the song ‘I’ve Got Rhythm’, while Porter was known for his hit ‘Kiss Me, Kate’ which was written for Broadway.

“The lyrical quality of their music is unmatched,” said Paul. “These virtuosos are my inspiration – always have been, and always will be.”
