Opportunity through Enterprise is the Commonwealth theme for 2013

The Commonwealth Youth Programme (CYP) of the Commonwealth Secretariat in collaboration with the Zambia Ministry of Youth and Sports, and partners announce the Commonwealth Week Commemorations. The Commonwealth week will precede the Commonwealth day celebration which is an annual event during which all 54 member countries of the Commonwealth celebrate their links with one another. The event is scheduled for CYP grounds on March 4th-11th, 2013This year’s event is special coming at a time when CYP marks its 40th anniversary since its inception in 1973.

Commonwealth Day is traditionally celebrated in events around the world in Commonwealth countries and, this event is held on the second Monday of the month of March every year - and is an opportunity to promote understanding on democratic values, the dignity of citizens and opportunities for youth across the Commonwealth.

This year’s Commonwealth theme encourages imagination, creativity, and a positive attitude to grasp the opportunities of our time – at home or with partners beyond our borders unlocking potential with innovation and excellence in which talent can be supported and put to the best use possible.

“Enterprise is about creativity of the mind, as well as a positive attitude, industriousness and energy. National political and economic leadership should nurture it.

The general objective of the week is to highlight enterprise as a progression pathway, to create awareness on youth enterprise, to share International and Local experiences in Youth Enterprise and to hear young entrepreneurs talk about their “enterprise” journey and exhibit their products. The event is expected to bring together a total of about 1000 participants both from SADC region and local.
