21 July 2010
Commonwealth Secretary-General, Kamalesh Sharma will visit Uganda from 23 to 26 July 2010 to attend the 15th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union in Kampala
The theme of the Summit is ‘Maternal, Infant and Child Health and Development’.
The Commonwealth values its long-standing relations with the African Union and continues to seek new avenues for meaningful engagement with its 19 member states in Africa. The Secretary-General will take the opportunity to meet with the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mr Jean Ping in the context of strengthening these engagements.
Mr Sharma will also hold discussions with a number of African Heads of Government on the current work of the Commonwealth as well as on contemporary matters of regional and global importance to the two organisations.”
We need Commonwealth support towards Maternal, Infant and Child Health and its partnership with the AU will go a long way to shape the way the institution works.
i appreciate the idea of commonwealth seeking cooperation with AU on development matters.
