Canada

Joseph asks:

Hello, Secretary–General Sharma;

I am a citizen of Canada, working class, about 46 years old.
A number of my ancestors date back to the earliest days of settlement in the 1790's.
To be brief, I read an article today describing the Commonwealth's reflection on the possibility of expelling PM Harper's Canada from Membership.
Certainly, my offices are not aware of the full dimensions and nuances of such a decision. Yet, I find your predicament of conscience compelling, even interesting.

By weight of addition, having personally witnessed unprecedented environmental and police violence through this difficult government, I would like to encourage you to take heart in the righteous option. It is embarrassing, as a citizen nationally and beyond, to attempt to account for the actions of one's leaders in situations such as the present somewhat haunted house of Harper, PM.

Perhaps you understand in equal weight, from the external perspective, the witness from the coordinates of our, and absolutely, the Commonwealth.
Your offices have my empathy in all necessary deliberations, and the immanence of dull corporatist consequence, such as we witnessed in the streets of Toronto during the G–20.

Please do consider me a patriotic citizen of the Commonwealth, in sufficient mind to support your decision, to expel unsustainable national government environmental violence to the commonweal. Sad to relate that in the event of such a turn, the loss of community to citizens not reflected in their government would represent the most difficult separation.

Thank you for your time and attention.

Kind Regards,
JFL

The Secretary-General replies:

Dear Joseph

Canada has been a member of the modern Commonwealth since its establishment in 1949. It remains a valued member, participating in ministerial meetings and contributing to many other areas of Commonwealth life. Prime Minister Harper has also made noteworthy and deeply appreciated contributions to the Commonwealth. We look forward to Canada’s participation at the next Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting which takes place in Perth, Western Australia, in October.
