Commonwealth Secretary-General commiserates with Government and people of Bangladesh

Commonwealth Secretary-General Kamalesh Sharma has written to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh to commiserate with the Government and people of Bangladesh over the announced death today of President Zillur Rahman.

Mr Sharma said: “It is with profound sadness that I learnt this morning of the death of President Rahman. He was a beloved and respected leader of Bangladesh and his death is an irreparable loss to the country.

“On behalf of the Commonwealth family and on my own behalf, I would like to convey our deepest condolences to the family of the late President and to the Government and people of Bangladesh.”
